Sensa is a new weight loss program, involving a powder sprinkled over the food before it is eaten. Read on to learn more about the program, how to use it, and why it may not work.
Sensa is a powder you sprinkle over your food to trick your taste buds and brain into eating less food. It comes in portable packs so you can leave one at home and take one with you wherever you go to eat. There are different stages of the program for people to use for a period of one month each over six months. At the end of the six months, you can start over again.
It seems easy, just sprinkle the powder over whatever you decide to eat. Exercise is recommended, but the basic premise of it says you can eat whatever, whenever, because the sprinkles will enhance the taste of the food, so you eat less when your brain thinks you are full–and lose weight by subconsciously cutting calories.
This doesn’t seem to do anything to offer overweight people who have a problem with eating. Many people do not stop eating when they feel full, which causes the weight to pile on. Simply tricking your brain into feeling full is not going to help these people, the people who need help losing weight the most, and this is considered the major flaw in the Sensa weight loss plan.
The diet also has other flaws:
People learn nothing about nutrition and what is healthy for them. By eating whatever you want, whenever you want, you learn nothing about what you should be eating to promote a healthy weight loss without the powder. You are doing nothing to speed up the metabolism, which whole foods help you do.
There’s no exercise plan. The small print says you’ll get better results with exercise, but all diets do-and it’s very understandable as to why exercise helps you lose weight. By not pushing any particular exercise program, the diet does not seem like it will do well for people.
No personal growth. By doing what you’ve always been doing, with the simple addition of a sprinkled powder, nothing is learned, and nothing gained. When you lose weight and better your lifestyle, you should feel good about the changes you are making and with this you are not learning to make any changes.
No long term results. When you stop using the powder, you’ll gain weight again, because you made no changes to your diet.
Does this mean the program won’t work? No. If you make the necessary changes to your eating habits and start an exercise plan, it could be a nice addition to another program to help boost efforts.

He made many experimentsbefore he was at last able to provide the pure air and the evenwarmth which is needed to keep the weak baby alive. The pic-ture on this page shows the incubator just as it is used to-day inmany places in France and in two places in New York City. The case is made of metal, as that was found to be the bestmaterial, because it furnishes no hiding-places for microbes orinjurious dust. In the front are glass doors, through which onemay see the baby inside, as shown in the picture. The warm aircomes from a furnace. At the Lion Institutes in New York thereare about thirty of these incubators, each one occupied by a littlebaby, who remains under the care of this mechanical mother andthe nurses and doctors, who watch the incubators day and nightuntil the baby has become big enough and strong enough to be Text Appearing After Image: INCUBATOR. 194 THE LITERARY DIGEST. The incubators are ranged around the sides of a large room, which is itself kept at the usual degree of heat. At the end ofthis room is another, called the nursery, and it is here that thebabies are dressed and undressed and bathed and fed. It is sep-arated from the room where the incubators are by glass doors, and in the nursery the warmth is the same as in the incubatorsthemselves. When a baby is to be fed, one of the nurses opensthe door of the incubator, lifts the baby out, throws a light clothover its face so it will not take cold on the way, and hurriesquickly to the nursery. Each baby is fed, usually from a nursing-bottle, once every two hours, and every time it is fed it is weighed, because the gain or loss of weight tells the doctor whether thebaby is getting stronger or weaker Into each incubator runs a sma Note About Images Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original work.
